She struggled during her childhood saving her brother at 10. Later she created the first free school in New Jersey but lost her job due to her being a woman. History Impacts is a show hosted by Claude T. Martinez. This episode focuses on Sarah Emma Edmonds who impersonated a man during the Civil War as Frank Flint Thompson. The focus on Edmonds disguising herself as a man and enlisting in the military during the Civil War first becoming a nurse and then becoming a Union spy. Her story is one of the little known stories of the Civil War and little knowns stories of amazing women in history.
